Graphic design final

For my graphic design final our class was asked to transform an artistic image into a graphic design poster. First, we had to differentiate between an artistic design and a graphic design. By the end we concluded that art is interpreted while graphics are understood.

To create this poster I first imported a picture of a car from the internet and then used the pen tool and basic shapes tool to create the street. Next I made some simple flowers in illustrator and imported them into photoshop. To create the background i designed a  grass swatch.

Text Tutorials

  • In this project I looked up various text tutorials for illustrator in order to enhance my skills in this program. By finding many different ways to manipulate letters I can now make future projects look more interesting with various new skills that I picked up.
  • I learned new tricks regarding the appearance tool and gradient tool. I was successfully able to create the effect of raindrops as well as applying numerous boarders around a single image. I  as well developed more skills by using a great number of other tools in illustrator that I have never used before such as the scribble effect.

Social Awareness Poster

In this social awareness poster, I tried to project the importance of a healthy nutrition. Walking daily helps you stay active and can help you lose weight. The idea for this poster was to demonstrate how a healthier public needs to start getting active and that it only takes one to make a difference.
In order to create the finished produce, I imported an outer space background and then a picture of earth. Next I changed the resolution and color balance to achieve the purple hues. After, I created a heart with a footprint banner in illustrator and turned the opacity to  fifty. After importing the heart to my photoshop poster and placing it over the earth, I resized it and erased the parts of earth that we outside of the heart. Lastly, I put the quote at the top.

In this tutorial I experimented with the pen tool. After importing a template gingerbread man, I utilized the pen tool to trace the borders. However this did not allow me to get the inside features. In order to create the bow tie, buttons and face I used the pen tool on a different setting which allowed me to cut pieces out of my stencil. Then, I chose a hue of brown to finish the stencil and turned off the background template layer.

Vintage poster

In this project i gathered various pictures and then manipulated them in order to get a cohesive design. First, I found a picture of a chinese landscape and then looked for a picture of a custom chinese boat. After obtaining both pictures I changed the hue and saturation to my desired look. Next, I cropped the boat and used the paint tool to get a simplistic look that is closer to that of the setting. Once I completed the main picture, I then created the border in which went to Dafont.com and uploaded chinese characters.

I this tutorial I learned how to create the effect of visual interest behind text. In order to achieve this look I first uploaded a texturized background and placed it over my text. I then desaturated the texturized background and proceeded to set it to overlay.

Logo feedback

This is my name logo. i was experimenting with circles and the subtract from shape tool and ended up with  this design. once i took a better look at the image i realized it looked like a lunar eclipse. I thought that   this was interesting looking and placed my last name in the center.

This is my initial logo. I liked the thought of overlapping different shapes. i did this by first warping triangles and arranging them together in this celestial style. Next I typed in the first letter of my name and placed it over the design and then subtracted it from the original shape.

This is my design logo. In this design i worked on overlapping various  layers. First i started off tracing a picture of  mouth and then i placed circles around it it make the image look like it as blowing a bubble. Next i incorporated my name by applying an arch to the text.

scrap sheet

  • In this exercise my teacher demonstrated the different strategies that were needed in order to complete this project
  • We learned how to use type text and create outlines, ungroup shapes, choose different fonts and Add shapes together
  • In the second part of the tutorial we learned how to subtract shapes from a background and make them different colors
  • Lastly, i learned how to substitute pictures from the internet for various letters

  • The hardest part of the exercise was figuring out clever logo designs for the various words
  • The easiest part was making various words into stack text designs

This exercise was really useful in order for me to continue on to making my logo design.

i would rank myself a 9 on the exercise
